Today's tithi is Dwadashi, in the Krishna paksha, the waning half of the lunar month. The Moon moves through Dhanishta nakshatra, pada 3. The vara is Shanivara, and the panchang's remaining limbs are Sadhya yoga and Kaulava karana.

Dwadashi in Krishna paksha

Krishna Dwadashi is the twelfth tithi of the dark fortnight, running from 312 to 324 degrees of Moon to Sun separation, and it is the tithi on which the dark fortnight Ekadashi fast is broken.

The parana, the breaking of the fast, has to fall after sunrise on Dwadashi and, in most reckonings, before the tithi itself ends. Because a tithi can be as short as about nineteen hours, that window is sometimes narrow, which is exactly the kind of question a panchang exists to answer.

Dwadashi belongs to the Bhadra group with the second and the seventh, and the traditional deity is Vishnu. The classical associations are with resumption: the ordinary world picked up again deliberately after a set aside day.

The Moon at this point is a fine crescent low in the east before dawn, three tithis from vanishing. If you want a use for the day that needs no observance, it is a good one for coming back to something you stepped away from on purpose.
