Today's tithi is Saptami, in the Krishna paksha, the waning half of the lunar month. The Moon moves through Mula nakshatra, pada 1. The vara is Somavara, and the panchang's remaining limbs are Variyana yoga and Bava karana.

What is Variyana yoga?

Variyana is the eighteenth of the 27 nithya yogas, and its name is read as comfort or easy passage, something that moves without resistance.

The classical associations are with ease and with things that go at their own pace: travel that is not urgent, work resumed rather than begun, and situations where the sensible move is to let something continue rather than to intervene.

It follows Vyatipata in the cycle, which readers of the sequence tend to notice, and the ordering is a fair picture of how a difficult stretch usually ends: not with a breakthrough but with things simply starting to move again.

The plain use is momentum. If something is already going, this is the traditional slot for keeping out of its way, and knowing when not to intervene is a skill worth more than most interventions.
