Krishna Dwitiya is the second tithi of the dark fortnight, running from 192 to 204 degrees of separation between the Moon and the Sun, and it is the point where the waning first becomes obvious.
The Moon rises noticeably after dark now, an hour and a half or so behind the Sun, and the edge that was full two nights ago has visibly flattened. If you have ever wondered how people tracked the fortnight without instruments, this is the tithi where the answer becomes clear: the change is easy to see once you know which side to watch.
Dwitiya belongs to the Bhadra group with the seventh and the twelfth, and the traditional deity is Brahma. In the waning half the associations turn from establishing something to sustaining it, since nothing new is being added to the light.
As a day it suits maintenance of the pleasant kind, the sort you do because a thing is working rather than because it broke. That is a genuinely different activity from repair, and it tends to get skipped, which is probably why the tradition gave it a slot.
