Guruvara, the day of Jupiter

Guruvara is the vara ruled by Brihaspati, also called Guru, the graha the tradition ties to teaching, counsel, ceremony and generosity.

It goes by Brihaspativara too, and in several languages the weekday name is simply the graha's name. Jupiter takes about twelve years to circle the zodiac, roughly a year per sign, which is the slowest cycle most people can follow by eye, and the day borrows that long view. The classical associations are teachers and elders, ceremonies, study of the deeper sort, and giving.
