Today's tithi is Chaturthi, in the Krishna paksha, the waning half of the lunar month. The Moon moves through Bharani nakshatra, pada 4. The vara is Budhavara, and the panchang's remaining limbs are Vajra yoga and Balava karana.

What is Vajra yoga?

Vajra is the fifteenth of the 27 nithya yogas, named for the thunderbolt, a word that also means diamond, and it belongs among the nine yogas the classical scheme keeps for care.

The double meaning is the interesting part. A vajra is both the weapon that strikes with no warning and the hardest substance known to the tradition, so the same word carries sudden force and complete durability. Indian art shows it as an object with points at both ends.

The handbooks keep this yoga away from delicate beginnings, and what they leave is anything that needs force applied cleanly: a hard decision executed rather than discussed, work that has to be finished in one go, and situations where hesitation costs more than a mistake would.

The cost is the obvious one. Force is not reversible, and a day described this way is one where a choice made quickly is likely to stay made. That is a genuine reason to be sure first, and it is not a reason to be afraid.
