Trayodashi in Krishna paksha
Krishna Trayodashi is the thirteenth tithi of the dark fortnight, spanning 324 to 336 degrees of separation, and it carries the twilight Pradosha observance just as its bright fortnight counterpart does.
Pradosha is kept in the window around sunset on the Trayodashi of both fortnights, which makes it one of the clearest examples of a practice that needs both halves of a panchang: the tithi to fix the day, the sunset time to fix the hour. In the bright fortnight of Kartika this tithi also carries the observance associated with household prosperity that opens the festival of lights.
In the classical grouping Trayodashi is a Jaya tithi with the third and the eighth, and the traditional deity is Kamadeva. Its associations are with attraction and persuasion, with results that come from drawing rather than forcing.
The Moon is now a thin sliver rising shortly before the Sun, and by the end of this tithi it is difficult to see at all. Two tithis remain in the month, and the tradition treats them as a wind down rather than as an ending to dread.
