Dhanishta nakshatra
Dhanishta is the twenty third nakshatra, from 23°20' of Makara (Capricorn) to 6°40' of Kumbha (Aquarius), ruled by Mars, and its symbol is a drum.
The stars are the small diamond of Delphinus, one of the neatest little shapes in the sky, sitting just off Altair. The name means the wealthiest or the most abundant, and the deities are the Vasus, a group associated with the elements and with material good.
A drum is an instrument that organises other people. It sets a tempo that a group can move to, which is why the classical readings connect this nakshatra with music, with rhythm, with reputation and with wealth that comes from doing something publicly and well. The gana is Rakshasa, intense rather than wicked, and the activity class is Chara, movable.
The plain use is timing in the musical sense. Some work goes better when it is done in time with other people, and some suffers from it. This is the nakshatra where the tradition puts the first kind, and noticing which kind you have is the useful bit.
