Today's tithi is Tritiya, in the Krishna paksha, the waning half of the lunar month. The Moon moves through Uttara Ashadha nakshatra, pada 4. The vara is Mangalavara, and the panchang's remaining limbs are Indra yoga and Vishti karana.

What is Indra yoga?

Indra is the twenty sixth of the 27 nithya yogas, named for the chief of the devas, and its territory is leadership, authority and public undertakings.

Indra in the older layers of the tradition is the one who acts on behalf of everyone, holds the thunderbolt and takes responsibility for the outcome. The associations that follow are about acting in a visible role: leading a group, speaking for a project, taking a position that people will hold you to.

The same name appears elsewhere in the panchang, notably as the deity of the nakshatra Jyeshtha, whose name means the eldest. Both usages point in the same direction, which is one of the small internal consistencies that make the tradition easier to learn than it first looks.

The cost of visibility is accountability, and the tradition is straightforward about that pairing. Taking a lead means owning what follows, and whether you want that on a given day is a decision worth making deliberately.
