Shukla Trayodashi is the thirteenth tithi of the bright fortnight, from 144 to 156 degrees of Moon to Sun separation, and it carries the twilight observance called Pradosha.

Pradosha is the window around sunset, and it is kept on the Trayodashi of both fortnights in Shaiva practice. It is one of the few observances tied to a time of day as tightly as to a tithi, which makes it a good illustration of how a panchang is used: the tithi says which day, and the sunset time says which hour.

In the classical grouping Trayodashi is a Jaya tithi, alongside the third and the eighth, and the traditional deity is Kamadeva. The associations are with attraction, persuasion, art and the kinds of undertaking that succeed by drawing people rather than by pushing them.

The Moon is nearly full, rising an hour or so before sunset and staying up almost until morning. If you have ever noticed the Moon looking full for several nights in a row, this tithi and the next are why.
