Today's tithi is Dwitiya, in the Shukla paksha, the waxing half of the lunar month. The Moon moves through Ardra nakshatra, pada 1. The vara is Ravivara, and the panchang's remaining limbs are Shula yoga and Balava karana.

Ardra nakshatra

Ardra is the sixth nakshatra, from 6°40' to 20°00' of Mithuna (Gemini), ruled by Rahu, and it is marked by Betelgeuse, the red shoulder of Orion.

Betelgeuse is unmistakable, a distinctly orange star at the top left of the Orion figure. The name Ardra means moist or wet, and the symbol most often given is a teardrop or a gem, the same shape read two ways depending on which the tradition wants to emphasise.

The deity is Rudra, the storm, and the classical activity class is Tikshna, sharp. The gana is Manushya (human). Storm is the key image the tradition works with: something arrives, it is not gentle, and the ground afterwards is changed. Nothing in the classical scheme presents that as a misfortune, and the wet in the name is the rain rather than the tears.

The growth frame that comes out of it is honest. This is the nakshatra of the difficult insight, the thing you find out that you cannot unlearn. The cost is comfort and the gain is accuracy, and only you can judge whether that is a trade you want on a given day.
