Today's tithi is Dwadashi, in the Krishna paksha, the waning half of the lunar month. The Moon moves through Ashwini nakshatra, pada 3. The vara is Budhavara, and the panchang's remaining limbs are Shobhana yoga and Taitila karana.

What is Shobhana yoga?

Shobhana is the fifth of the 27 nithya yogas, and its name means splendid or beautiful, from a root that describes something shining because it is well made.

The traditional associations run toward appearance and presentation in the honest sense: work meant to be seen, ceremonies, decoration, and anything where the finish is part of the substance rather than a coat of paint over it.

Yogas advance about one step a day, so they make a slow moving background against the faster tithi and karana. Shobhana comes round roughly once a month, which is often enough to be familiar and rare enough to notice.

A useful way to take it is as a reminder that how a thing looks is part of what it is. That applies to a room, a piece of writing and a conversation. What you do with the observation is your own business, and the tradition makes no promises about the result.
