Today's tithi is Shashthi, in the Shukla paksha, the waxing half of the lunar month. The Moon moves through Punarvasu nakshatra, pada 3. The vara is Mangalavara, and the panchang's remaining limbs are Shula yoga and Kaulava karana.

What is Shula yoga?

Shula is the ninth of the 27 nithya yogas, and its name means a spear or a sharp point, which places it among the nine yogas the classical scheme marks for care.

A spear is a single point carrying all the force, and that is the tradition's image rather than any prediction of harm. The word is also the ordinary Sanskrit term for a sharp pain, so the associations are with things that are concentrated, pointed and hard to ignore.

The classical handbooks keep this yoga away from celebrations and from beginnings meant to be gentle. What sits comfortably here is anything that genuinely requires a point: a decision that has been circled for weeks, a boundary that has to be stated plainly, an argument that needs making once and clearly.

The growth in that is real and so is the cost. Being direct is uncomfortable and it ends ambiguity, and the tradition is naming the trade rather than urging you toward either side of it. What you do with a sharp day is your decision.
