Today's tithi is Panchami, in the Shukla paksha, the waxing half of the lunar month. The Moon moves through Rohini nakshatra, pada 3. The vara is Ravivara, and the panchang's remaining limbs are Saubhagya yoga and Bava karana.

What is Saubhagya yoga?

Saubhagya is the fourth of the 27 nithya yogas, and its name means wellbeing or a good portion, built from the same root as bhaga, the share that falls to a person.

The classical associations are with ease and with things that arrive without a struggle: welcome, comfort, hospitality, and undertakings that are pleasant to begin. It is one of the yogas the handbooks describe most favourably, and traditionally it is kept for celebrations and for beginnings people want to remember fondly.

The measurement behind it is plain arithmetic. Add the Sun's sidereal longitude to the Moon's, divide by 13°20', and the count of completed segments gives the yoga. Nothing about the calculation depends on which yoga you happen to land in.

Reading it well means resisting the temptation to expect anything. A yoga associated with ease is a description of a shape that suits enjoyment, and enjoying something still requires you to actually stop and do it.
