The Vimshottari lords behind each nakshatra
Vimshottari is the 120 year scheme in which each of the 27 nakshatras carries one of nine ruling grahas, repeating the sequence Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury three times around the zodiac.
The name comes from the number 120, and the arithmetic is fixed: Ketu holds 7 years, Venus 20, the Sun 6, the Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19 and Mercury 17. Those add to 120 exactly. Where the Moon stood at birth decides where in that long cycle a life begins, which is why the birth nakshatra matters so much in jyotisha.
The same nine lords label the daily nakshatra. If the Moon is in Pushya the day's nakshatra lord is Saturn. If it is in Swati the lord is Rahu. It is the identical fixed assignment used for the long dasha periods, borrowed here for the span of a single day.
Treat the lord as a quick handle when a nakshatra's own story is unfamiliar, not as a forecast. Nothing about a Saturn ruled nakshatra decides how a day goes, and the tradition reads the nakshatra's own deity, symbol and class first. The lord is the last line of the description, not the first.
