Today's tithi is Navami, in the Shukla paksha, the waxing half of the lunar month. The Moon moves through Rohini nakshatra, pada 1. The vara is Somavara, and the panchang's remaining limbs are Indra yoga and Balava karana.

Rohini nakshatra

Rohini is the fourth nakshatra, from 10°00' to 23°20' of Vrishabha (Taurus), ruled by the Moon, and its marker star is Aldebaran, the orange eye of the Bull.

Aldebaran is one of the brightest stars along the Moon's path, and the V shaped group around it is easy to find on any clear winter evening. Because the Moon rules this nakshatra as well as passing through it, the tradition treats it as the Moon's most comfortable stretch of the zodiac.

The deity is Prajapati, the maker of creatures, and the symbol is a cart, the thing that carries a harvest home. The gana is Manushya (human) and the classical activity class is Dhruva, meaning fixed, which groups it with the three Uttara nakshatras. Fixed nakshatras are the traditional slot for anything meant to stay put.

So the plain use is planting rather than harvesting, in the widest sense: buying the thing you will keep, signing the lease, starting the practice you intend to still be doing in a year. Growth here is described as slow and physical, and slow is a cost as much as a virtue.
