Today's tithi is Saptami, in the Krishna paksha, the waning half of the lunar month. The Moon moves through Uttara Phalguni nakshatra, pada 3. The vara is Budhavara, and the panchang's remaining limbs are Saubhagya yoga and Bava karana.

Uttara Phalguni nakshatra

Uttara Phalguni is the twelfth nakshatra, from 26°40' of Simha (Leo) to 10°00' of Kanya (Virgo), ruled by the Sun, and it is the second half of the bed, the legs at the far end.

Its main star is Denebola, at the tail of the Lion, marking the boundary where the Lion gives way to the Virgin. Like its partner Purva Phalguni it is easy to place in the sky once you have found Regulus and traced eastward.

The deity is Aryaman, the principle of friendship, hospitality and the contracts people keep because of who they are rather than because of what is written. The classical activity class is Dhruva, fixed, which groups it with Rohini and the other two Uttara nakshatras, and the gana is Manushya (human).

Where the first half of the pair is about enjoying a share, this one is about the arrangement that makes sharing durable: partnership, agreement, the terms under which two people keep something going. It is one of the nakshatras the tradition most consistently keeps for things intended to last, and the effort of making something last is the point rather than a side note.
