Today's tithi is Panchami, in the Krishna paksha, the waning half of the lunar month. The Moon moves through Mrigashira nakshatra, pada 4. The vara is Shukravara, and the panchang's remaining limbs are Shiva yoga and Kaulava karana.

Panchami in Krishna paksha

Krishna Panchami is the fifth tithi of the dark fortnight, from 228 to 240 degrees of Moon to Sun separation, and it belongs to the Purna group of tithis the tradition treats as complete in themselves.

The Moon now rises around three hours after sunset and is well past full, a lopsided gibbous that is brightest in the early hours of the morning. Anyone who keeps early hours sees more of the dark fortnight Moon than anyone who keeps late ones.

The traditional deity is the nagas, the serpents, the same as in the bright fortnight, and the fifth, tenth and fifteenth share the Purna grouping. Purna means full, and it is worth noticing that the grouping is about the number rather than the phase: a Purna tithi in the dark fortnight is complete in its structure while the light is decreasing.

That combination is the useful part. It describes work that is whole but winding down, which covers a great deal of ordinary life, and the tradition gives it a name rather than treating it as failure.
