Today's tithi is Purnima, in the Shukla paksha, the waxing half of the lunar month. The Moon moves through Ashwini nakshatra, pada 2. The vara is Somavara, and the panchang's remaining limbs are Vajra yoga and Bava karana.

Somavara, the day of the Moon

Somavara is the vara ruled by Chandra, the Moon, the second weekday of the panchang and the one most closely tied to the mind, the home and everything that moves in tides.

Soma is an old name for the Moon, and the Sanskrit word behind Monday in several Indian languages. The traditional associations follow the Moon's nature rather than any rule: water, food, the household, mothers, memory, and the parts of life that need tending regularly rather than deciding once. In many regions Somavara also carries a Shiva observance, kept with special attention through the month of Shravana.

The Moon is the fastest moving body in the panchang, covering roughly thirteen degrees a day, so it is the body that drives the tithi, the karana and the nakshatra all at once. Somavara is the one weekday whose lord is also the engine of the rest of the page, which makes it a good day to notice how much of a panchang is really a Moon report.

If you keep any kind of weekly rhythm, this is the traditional slot for the maintenance kind: cleaning, cooking ahead, checking in with people, putting the week back in order. None of that is prescribed by the sky. It is simply where the custom settled, and it is a reasonable place to put work that benefits from being unhurried.
